To that end, a snatch-grip deadlift from the floor is really more like a conventional deadlift done from a deficit, and while there's certainly nothing wrong with that, most people just don't have the requisite hip mobility to do it safely without rounding their lower back.Īt the same time, you still want a decent range of motion, so don't go letting your ego get in the way and start pulling from the knees just so you can throw more wheels on the bar. ![]() The wider grip puts significantly more stress on the upper back, traps, and rear delts than a conventional deadlift, while pulling from the pins with the bar elevated a few inches off the floor allows for better form and heavier loading than pulling from the floor.īear in mind though that using a wider snatch grip effectively increases the range of motion of the lift, so a snatch grip rack pull from a few inches off the floor is approximately equivalent to a conventional deadlift from the floor. The secret here is in the name: snatch grip and mid-shin. In short, I'd accidently discovered an incredible back builder, one I predict will turn out to be the best movement, bar none, for back hypertrophy! Given my history of lower back issues, I ruled that one out pretty quickly.īut when I tried doing them from mid-shin, using a snatch grip, I noticed the limiting factor was definitely the upper back, not the legs, making it a better back exercise than leg exercise in terms of muscle development. While that sounded good in theory, I found it damn near impossible to pull from the floor with any semblance of a flat back, especially as the weights got heavier. ![]() Deadlifts are generally better tolerated than squatting and lunging variations, and I thought that using the snatch grip would be even better for the legs given the increased range of motion. While I scoffed at first, this unsexy feature is actually super useful when the temperature dips near freezing. Two caps: A screw cap on the input and flip cap on the output allow hikers to completely seal the Quickdraw after each use - no drips, no dirt. Platypus recommends backflushing a quarter-liter for every six liters filtered at a minimum. This pushes clean water backwards through the Quickdraw, washing detritus back the way it came. The more effective option is to backflush the filter by holding a bottle of clean water to the filter output and giving it a good squeeze. In practice, I found this easy enough to do regularly, but not useful in noticeably restoring flow rate. This splashing dislodges some of the grit built up on the exposed filter fibers. Put a quarter-liter of water in the dirty reservoir and shake it all up for 30 seconds. The easiest, yet least effective is the slosh method. ![]() Multi-cleaning: There are two ways to clean the filter - no accessories needed - which is required to maintain anything close to an acceptable flow rate. A steady stream of bubbles indicates a compromised filter, in which case it should be trashed. Next, flip the filter up and squeeze air through. Put half a liter of water in the reservoir and squeeze some through to wet out the fibers. A few simple steps are all it takes to do a filter integrity test. Platypus has developed a solution to this conundrum. At worst, a maybe-frozen filter turns into weeks of horrendous diarrhea and then shelling out $40 for a new filter. Worse yet, there is usually no way of knowing if the filter function has been compromised.Īt best, (for responsible people) a maybe-frozen filter means shelling out ~$40 for a new filter. This is not a problem during the height of summer, but it’s potentially significant during shoulder seasons or at high altitude.
